February 23, 2008 (vs Lamar Consolidated Mustangs)
Lamar Consolidated Blanks the Bulldogs, 6-0

The Bulldogs are off to a tough 0-3 start to start their 2008 campaign, getting shut out Saturday afternoon by the Lamar Consolidated Mustangs. After jumping out to first-inning leads in their first two games of the tournament, the Bulldogs could never get anything going against Lamar starting pitcher Cameron Blinka, who went 6 innings, allowing only 7 baserunners. Lamar got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first, scoring 4 times off Bulldog starter Robert Psenka as 6 straight batters reached base. A heads-up play by first baseman Benn Fairbanks limited the damage, as he turned an unassisted double play to end the first – after fielding a grounder to first and stepping on the bag, Fairbanks raced across the diamond to catch the runner from third in a rundown, tagging him out without a throw.

Always looking for something positive: While Blinka may have held the Bulldog offense in check today, Austin’s defense had him stymied at the plate, getting him on two double plays, as well as picking him off first after he singled in the sixth.

Offensive highlights:

· 3 hits on the game – a double and a single by 3B Ryan Dalton, and a pinch-hit single by RF Caleb McKinney.

Pitching highlights:

· Robert Psenka went 5 innings, 3 K’s, 2 BB’s, 6 runs, 5 earned runs, and took the loss.

· Andrew Keplinger went 1 inning, 1 K, 0 runs.
