Austin’s first game in the Ewell Jackson Tournament against Yates High School was a blowout. Starting pitcher Caleb McKinney set the Lions down in order in quick fashion, getting 3 strikeouts in the top of the first. Shortstop Scott Viktorin got the Bulldogs all the runs they would need in this one, leading off the home half of the inning with a home run to right center. That set the tone for the rest of the night, as the Bulldogs sent another 25 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, plating a total of 21 runs. With a week’s worth of offense in half-an-inning, it’s hard to capture all the highlights, but of note was Catcher Drew Miller showing some wheels when his line drive single to center eluded the Lions’ center fielder, allowing Miller to speed around the bases and score. After the Lions finally got a hard-fought 3 outs on the Dogs, they never really had a chance to get their offense going, getting 2 more strikeouts and a groundout to go in order in the top of the 2nd. For the Bulldogs, they never cooled off, sending another 19 batters to the plate and getting 15 more runs before the Lions called it quits.
