Re:  Scholarships

In 2010, the Baseball Houston Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials will award 16 scholarships, of $3000 each, to outstanding high school seniors from the Houston area.  To be eligible for the scholarship, high school seniors must meet the following qualifications:

  • The graduating senior must be a member of a varsity baseball team or a student trainer.

  • The graduating senior must use the Houston Chapter for home games.

  • The graduating senior must enroll in a 2 or 4 year college or university for the fall semester after graduation from high school.

  • The graduating senior shall not receive an athletic scholarship in any sport.

  • The graduating senior must be willing to attend the awards presentation in June, 2010 at the Aldine ISD Campbell Center, should they be selected.

If you are eligible for this scholarship and if you are committed to attending either a 2 or 4 year college or university, submit the enclosed application to the TASO-Baseball-Houston Chapter Scholarship Committee no later than April 29, 2010.  The scholarship committee will review the applications and interviews for the finalists will be scheduled the week of May 17, 2010.  The scholarship winners will be contacted and awarded the scholarship in June at a date and time to be determined at the Aldine ISD Campbell Center.

Each applicant must submit an essay of no more than two typed pages, double spaced, stating why he or she deserves the scholarship.  We cannot stress enough the importance of the applicants clearly delineating any particular circumstances that would help the members of this committee strictly, yet sympathetically, evaluate the applications.  This is the not the time for students to be modest or shy.  We need to know of acute need, staggering intelligence, and burning enthusiasm.  It is also required that the applicant submit no less than three letters of recommendation.  One letter must be from their varsity baseball coach, another must come from a teacher or counselor.  The final letter must be from some person not affiliated with any school district.
