In the JV Bulldogs second game of their 2009 season they faced the Katy Taylor Mustangs. Jr. Kyle Durand started on the mound for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs started off fast against the Mustangs with three consecutive singles in the first from LF Jr. Blake Carwile, C So.Anthony DeJesus and CF So. J.T. Mabushshir. 2B Jr. Gavin Torres battled Mustang’s pitcher, Jochec, tough on 7 pitches which Torres ended up winning with a RBI walk. Unfortunately this was all the Bulldogs could manage in the first inning stranding 3 Bulldog base runners.

The Mustangs came out in the first ready to challenge the Bulldogs. After two infield errors, a couple of bases on balls and a timely deep RBI fly out to CF Mabushshir, the Mustangs racked up 4 runs in the first.

In the second, the Mustangs held the Bulldog’s scoreless while scoring 1 more run of their own. At the end of the second, the Mustangs had pulled away with a 5-1 lead.

However, in the third, the Bulldogs batted 15; scoring 10 runs. This rally consisted of a double from C DeJesus (1 RBI), another double from LF Carwile (2 RBIs), 2 singles from CF Mabushshir (3 RBs) and single from Jr. 1B Matt Prickett (2 RBIs). Of course the 7 bases on balls did not help the Mustangs cause much either.

In the bottom of the third, P Durand found his footing and shut down the Mustangs with 2 SOs. C DeJesus made a nifty pick off at first with a laser throw to 1B so the Bulldogs were able to get out of the inning without any runs scored maintaining the Bulldogs lead of 11-5.

In the fourth, the Mustangs tried to stage a come back. With a couple more infield errors by the Bulldogs and a couple of singles from the Mustangs, the Mustangs scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the fourth. During the ending, Jr. Manu Gulati came in to relieve Durand. The Bulldogs lead had been reduced to 11-7.

There was only time for 1 more inning at this point. Neither team could manage to score any runs. Final score 11 – 7, Bulldogs win.
