March 6, 2009 (vs Bellville Brahmas)
Brahmas Batter Bulldogs, 10-2
The Bellville Brahmas put it to the Dawgs in the nightcap of the double header
on Friday, defeating the Bulldogs 10 to 2 and dropping Austin's record to 2 and
1 in the Katy Tournament.
The magic in the Bulldogs bats that combined to produce 31 runs in the first two
games of the tournament was silenced, as the Brahmas got a strong pitching performance
from starter Gaddy and Supak in relief, as they combined to limit the Dawgs to
two runs on only 4 hits while striking out 7 Bulldog batters.
The lone offense for Austin came in the fifth inning, as lead off batter and DH
Brandon Guillen walked on a full count. Brandon stole second base and was moved
to third when CF Tyler Whitaker reached base on a throwing error by the Brahmas
third baseman. 3B Tyler Hopson stepped up and responded by rocketing a double
to the center field fence, scoring both runners on the play. Despite an infield
single by C Chris Miller who followed and moved Hopson to third, the Dawgs were
unable push Hopson across the plate and the inning ended on a nice play by the
Bellville short stop.
By that time, however, the Brahmas had already amassed a 9 run comfortable lead,
even after being held scoreless by P Jared Boyle for the first two innings. Six
Bulldog errors eventually led to their undoing, as Bellville broke the game open
in the top of the the fifth inning, sending ten batters to the plate and scoring
six runs.
The Bulldogs tightened their defense after that, holding the Brahmas to just one
run over the last inning and a third, highlighted by P Joe Morris striking out
3 consecutive batters, but the damage had been done.
The Bulldogs will wrap up play in the Katy Tournament at 11:00 AM on Saturday,
as they will play the host Mayde Creek Rams.
