The Katy Tigers jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Bulldogs, making FB Austin’s record 1-2 three games into the Katy Tournament.

The Tigers got to Bulldog starter Clint VanTilborg for 3 runs in the first inning, courtesy of 3 hits and two walks. Katy tacked on a pair of runs in the second, racking up three more hits and a walk. VanTilborg settled down after that, giving up only an unearned run in the fourth, and logging 4 strikeouts on the afternoon. Luke Mulcahey came on in relief in the sixth, also giving up only an unearned run.

After a 9-run outburst in last night’s game, the Bulldogs offense never got going this afternoon, managing only base runners on 2 triples and 3 walks (2 by SS Barrett Barnes and 1 by RF Tony Gigliotti). 1B Ryan Dalton had a lead-off triple in the fourth, but the ‘Dogs couldn’t find a way to get him home. CF Daniel Rockett tripled to the same spot in deep right center two innings later, and came home to score the only Bulldog run after the umpires ruled the Tigers held an improper conference on or near the mound (need to check the rulebook on that one).
